I still dunno if it was, and not having a firm opinion is fine, but I really hope it was. A diff motivation other than trolling is willful moving of Overton window - the man is a masterul marketer and knows psychology instinctively, similar but different to Trump.

new cool controversial opinion: the first one was accidental spastic musk behaviour, the second one wasn't anymore because he decided to go all in, in a split second.

I wasn't sure at first, but when he turned his back to the crowd and did it again for seemingly no one (the flag maybe?) it was obvious. Masterful gambit sir 🫡

You presented a strawman.

No serious people ever claimed he did not know what a sieg heil was.

Everybody knows of course he does.

The claim was that he tried to do some gesture which he thought would look cool and it came out somewhat close to a sieg heil.

I think that Elon Musk supports women's suffrage while his alter ego Melon Usk opposes it.

Musk isn’t a natural public speaker or known for his speech-writing or rhetoric.

I suspect, when tasked to give a speech for Trumps inaugural, he got the idea that it would be absolutely hilarious if, just for shits-n-giggles, he would end it by giving a full-on Roman salute.

He knew it would make the heads of his liberal critics explode but that they couldn’t do a damn thing about it. It’s the ultimate “go f__k yourself” to the entire liberal political / cultural establishment he loathes so much. I don’t think there’s much more to his thinking or motivation than that.
